Last week the 9th LIGHT workshop took place at Ringberg Castle (right). In the wonderful surroundings of a sunny autumnal Tegernsee region we had lively discussions on the latest photosensor developments. Participants from both, science and industry, shared their previous progress and their ideas for future developments.
On Wednesday we presented the SENSE project on top of Mount Wendelstein. Beside a short presentation on the project's management and the results from the SiPM measurements we introduced and discussed in this summit session the roadmap for the ultimate LLL sensors.
The main focus of the workshop were the latest improvements of PMTs and SiPMs and their applications, mainly relating to Astroparticle Physics. But also the progress achieved for other photosensors like MCPs or HPDs and the auxiliary electronics was presented and discussed.
The industrial partner’s session allowed the attending companies to introduce their latest products to the community and to talk about future trends.
The SENSE summit session on Mount Wendelstein (left) started with an introduction by Katharina Henjes-Kunst about the idea and the structure of the SENSE project. Katrin Link followed with the presentation of the website and the forum. In a subsequent discussion how this could be improved we gathered new ideas that will be implemented in the future.
Then Teresa Montaruli and Andrii Nagai showed the results achieved by workpackage 2: The cooperation agreement is ready and signed by three partners. The photosensor measurements are ongoing showing good agreement. Further institutions showed their interest in joining the agreement and exchanging measurement results.
The afternoon was devoted to the roadmap: Razmik Mirzoyan, John Smedley and Andrii Nagai explained the basic idea for the document and its content regarding different photosensors. The roadmap will concentrate on PMTs and SiPMs, in which the main focus is on photocathode development and modular, LEGO-like application, respectively. The presentations went along with a lively debate which gave new input and response from the community.
Altogether the LIGHT-17 workshop was affected by informative talks and constructive discussions which continued in the evenings in one of the wonderful rooms at Ringberg Castle.
